Alleged gang member making a deposit

Alleged walk-up deposit at a drive-thru ATM in Needham by gang member Brandon Baez (from affidavit).

Last month, the US Attorney's office announced roundups of alleged members of the H Block and Mission Hill gangs.

The alleged associates of the H Block gang, based on the streets north of Franklin Park, were charged with the sort of gun- and drug-related offenses you'd expect. But their Mission Hill counterparts - based at the Mission Main and Annunciation Road projects - were charged with a different kind of crime with which to support their own violent warring: Heading out into wealthy suburbs and stealing large amounts of mail which they'd rifle for checks, so they could "wash" them with chemicals and make out checks in large amounts to themselves or accomplices. The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports on the simmering battles between the cemetery, which has been limiting public access in recent years and which is now chopping down noticeable numbers of trees, and nearby residents, who note the cemetery, like the less combative Mount Auburn in Cambridge, was started as a "rural garden cemetery" that was both a burial ground and public park. City Councilor Ben Weber is now involved.

A disgusted Jamaica Plain resident filed a 311 complaint this afternoon after city workers refused to pick up an old chair out at the curb, because, according to the orange note they left behind, it was covered in bedbugs when, the kvetcher complains, it was actually covered in dead ants from yesterday's extreme aerial ant orgy across much of the area: Read more.
