The Globe reports that Josh Zakim (Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Fenway, Mission Hill, Bay Village) won't be running for re-election this fall.

Zakim, first elected in 2013, joins Tim McCarthy (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan), who announced in January he wouldn't be running again.

The City Council voted unanimously today to condemn current federal policies on breaking up families at the border, after Councilor Michelle Wu (at large) broke down in tears today as she explained she's had trouble just leaving the house the past couple of days after watching all the news and after Councilor Josh Zakim (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Fenway), whose family fled the Nazis two generations ago, said comparisons to the actions of Nazi Germany are "entirely appropriate." The Herald reports on Zakim's 55-45 margin, but doesn't mention Marty Walsh's role in convincing Boston delegates to go with the city councilor rather than the incumbent from Brighton. Both Zakim and Galvin will be on the September ballot.

The Salem News reports that Josh Zakim, who just won another term to represent Beacon Hill, the Back Bay, Fenway, the West End and Mission Hill on the city council, filed papers yesterday to run against Secretary of State William Galvin next year - in the Democratic primary, natch. A Swampscott man is also running.

A divided City Council could vote Wednesday on a plan to let a proposed $1-billion, 750-foot tower rise on the site of a condemned city garage in Winthrop Square in exchange for a $153 million sale price proponents would go to much needed renovation work on Boston Common, in Franklin Park and at the Old Colony and Orient Heights house developments, but which opponents say would open the city to even more problems with developers with lots of money. The Red Sox yesterday won city permission to host eight concerts at Fenway Park this summer, starting with the Dead and Company on June 17 and 18.

The Red Sox wanted to host twelve concerts, but city licensing head Christine Pulgini said nope after a hearing last month at which Fenway residents and City Councilor Josh Zakim said they didn't sign up for lots of concerts at Fenway on top of 81 Sox home games. Read more.

City Councilor Josh Zakim and HIAS, a group originally formed to aid victims of Russian pogroms resettle in the US, will hold a vigil in support of refugees at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Holocaust Memorial downtown.

The vigil, part of a national Day of Jewish Action for Refugees, is also being organized by the local ADL, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston and the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center.
