Back to the '50s in Inman Square

Pop.Bop.Shop tries out, enjoys Trina's Starlite Lounge, which swapped out the biker feel of the Abbey Lounge for the era when smoking was cool and posters of pinup girls were, well, pinned up.

... [T]he onion strings and the apple boursin sandwich were sublime. Those two items make a mouth watering meal. ...

How to get amazing personal attention from MBTA officials

Yes, of course it's possible. Victoria Welch reports all you have to do is star in a movie:

... Make sure you're all together!" said one of the hyperactive transportation officials. "Everyone on the same car!

Theories bounced around my head as the T finally approached. Foreigners? Spies? Prospective Tufts students?

The door opened and the T official stepped in front of me. "Make sure she gets on! Make sure she gets on!" ...

Woman charged with manslaughter for death of fetus in nail-salon fight

A woman who got into an all-out fight with an acquaintance at a Dorchester nail salon on April 10 has been indicted for the death of the acquaintance's six-month-old fetus.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office charges that after Ayanna Woodhouse and the other woman got into a disagreement while having their nails done at Tulip Nail, 408 Neponset Ave, Woodhouse punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground, according to the DA's office. Then, prosecutors say, Woodhouse kicked and punched the woman repeatedly, several times in the stomach.

The mother was later transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where the baby girl was delivered in an emergency Cesarean section. The baby did not survive. After autopsy, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of her death to be placental abruption - a detachment of the placenta from the uterus - due to maternal trauma.

The DA's office says the manslaughter charge is warranted because the baby could have survived if not for the trauma.

Prosecutors say Woodhouse's cousin was the father of the baby.

Woodhouse is expected to be arraigned tomorrow on manslaughter and assault charges in Suffolk Superior Court.

Innocent, etc.
