The High Holidays

Cross-posted from LMT.

I honestly think that the holiday situation is getting ridiculous. I mean, I benefited from the time off at public school as a kid, and I am in favor of paid time off on principle, but... we're kind of suffering right now, and our state government really thinks that they should get a day off?

The primary argument that the legislators use is that Evacuation Day isn't a "hack" holiday, that it's a real holiday that celebrates our American Revolution.

'“I think it’s important to carry on the traditions that ultimately created this great country that we live in,” said state Sen. John Hart (D-South Boston), at a State House hearing.'1

Bike accident victim looking for help filling in the details

Last Tuesday, Jesse Kirdahy-Scalia (@victorycig on Twitter) was struck by a car in Brighton on Strathmore Road. At the time of the accident, clockworkted posted this information here on Universal Hub asking if anyone had any more details. It mentions the driver of a silver Camry talking on a cellphone and then hitting a cyclist wearing a helmet and riding a blue bicycle.

It turns out Jesse was that cyclist and he woke up in the hospital 2 days later with no memory of what happened and a broken femur and ankle. He saw my Tweet asking the Boston Police on Twitter for more info and is hoping to find out if anyone has any knowledge of the events that Tuesday that they can give him.

Does anyone know anything?

They've seen fire and they've seen rain

Amid all the flooded-basement and accident calls this morning, the Boston Fire Department also had to send crews out to manhole fires at State Street and Surface Road and Allston Street and Comm. Ave.

Soggy hat tip to Prairie Rose Clayton for the headline.

Muddy River flooding: Double dam

The MBTA provides this photo of the temporary dams now in place at the Fenway portal where the Riverside line goes underground. The T had been running Riverside service this morning after the Muddy River receded below flood stage, but it's back above it again and there's no service between Fenway and Kenmore.
