Fire at 36 Lexington Ave. in Hyde Park

A three-alarm fire at 36 Lexington Ave. that broke out shortly before 12:10 p.m. sent one resident to the hospital.

The Boston Fire Department reports the fire started in the rear and that the home's rear porches collapsed. Read more.

The Bulletin reports that Dollar Tree on River Street, near the Mattapan line, lost $50,000 in merchandise to shoplifters last year, which the store manager says could cost him his job and the neighborhood the store.

Around 6:50 p.m., the driver of a white Acura rear-ended a prisoner-transport van on Hyde Park Avenue near Metropolitan Avenue, then kept on driving, at relatively low speeds. Read more.

A fire that broke out at 18 Lincoln St. in Hyde Park around 5 p.m. went to two alarms and displaced nine people.

The Boston Fire Department reports no injuries; estimates damage at $300,000.

Graffiti at Thompson Center

Larry Johnson spent some time recently at the Thompson Center, which some residents want to turn into a multi-use dog park, but which state Rep. Angelo Scaccia is fighting to keep it just the way it is.

Artists have complete freedom of expression here in billboard size pieces and are not fettered by the limitations put upon them by "community standards" or neighborhood associations who govern what can be put on public walls, or commercial concerns, or "acceptable" material teenagers can create on a mural project under adult supervision. This outdoor gallery is a unique museum of these creations, ever changing and challenging convention.

Ricolombia restaurant on River Street in Hyde Park
Opening soon

Ricolombia Restaurant, 1231 River St., where Salamander Cafe used to be, and where a succession of Haitian restaurants used to be, quietly closed this week, barely four months after it opened.

Today, the windows were festooned with signs advising that it would be opening soon under new ownership. Read more.

Fire in Stony Brook Reservation

Jake ran across this bucolic scene inside Stony Brook Reservation this afternoon. No, this probably won't cause any brush fires today, given how wet the ground is from yesterday's snow/sleet/rain, but it might show one of the reasons why, pretty much every spring, Boston firefighters have to haul hoses deep into the woods because they erupt in flames. Stony Brook Reservation is still painted largely in palettes of gray and brown. But the vernal pools there - some still with a coating of ice - have some brilliant emerald-green swatches.

DCR Commissioner Leo Roy tonight unveiled a proposal to set aside all of Stony Brook Reservation west of Enneking Parkway - 140 acres of the 475-acre forest - for a dog park that would feature about a three-acre area of fenced-in play space and several miles of trails through the woods where owners could let their dogs roam free. 110 Davison St. in Hyde Park

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded at 7:30 p.m. to 110 Davison St., for a fire that caused an estimated $80,000 in damage and displaced four.

Nobody was injured in the fire, the cause of which is under investigation, the department says.

The Bulletin reports the Hyde Park Board of Trade is looking to attract new businesses from Cleary Square to Logan Square and that sporting-goods shops, sit-down restaurants and bakeries top the list. Also, with Roslindale now filling up with people priced out of JP, the board wonders when Hyde Park will fill up with people priced out of Roslindale.
