With Kenmore locked down, fans stream towards Common

Patriots fans head to Boston Common

With police keeping people out of Kenmore Square who weren't there before the end of the game, fans who just want to be part of something big are streaming towards the Parkman Bandstand.

Chris in Boston captured a large crowd on its way there.

UPDATE, 11:40 p.m. People began leaving the bandstand around 11:25 and started heading towards Kenmore Square. Some people began throwing ice chunks on Boylston Street; one car had its windshield shattered at Boylston and Ring Road.

Well done, all around: Pats for the championship, cops protecting the city after the win, and fans who celebrated responsibly. Other cities, take note!

It does seem that after Boston experienced so many championships, we have learned how to celebrate responsibly. While officials are probably just thanking the proactiveness of the cops - partially to our chagrin, I think the multiple championships has trained us a bit as well.

There's a limit to how much outdoor celebrating you want to do when wind-chill is in the single digits and the snow is still 2 feet deep.

Notice the man on the left in short sleeves, and the invisible beer jacket.
