I was there!
Train pulled into Sullivan just fine, but the first car had only emergency lighting on; I wonder if that was the reason they pulled the whole train out of service.
Then when my packed train got into North Station I stepped out of the train to let people out and the wave of new people kept me from getting back in, so see if I ever make THAT gesture of decency towards my fellow commuter again
Depends on what the power loss was
Depends on what the power loss was and what caused it.
If it was just emergency lights and nothing else was working, there could also have been other power-related issues.
These are semi-permanently married pairs. One car (even serial number) provides the motive power to go forward and backward. The other car (odd serial number) provides the air compressors for the brakes. This is an over-simplified description.
If the car lost all power and it lost motive power of one of 3 such cars in a train set that could have caused an issue with moving a full train and even cause some damage to those units that were straining to carry the load. If it was the compressor car then you only have 2 of 3 possible cars providing air for the brakes.
Sounds like taking the trainset out of service was the right call from a safety perspective, which of course is not always evident to impatient passengers.
Sullivan was weirdly empty
Sullivan was weirdly empty around 8:40, and trains were coming slightly more often than usual, so I was happy!
