Hyde Park's Community Acupuncture Clinic Holds Benefit Day for Mass. Coalition of Domestic Workers

Acupuncturist treats person in recliner while two more people relax in other recliners.

Everyone keeps asking: who is Carmen?

Carmen’s Birthday Benefit is on Friday, February 21, 2020. At this special event, Boston Acupuncture Project (BAP) offers acupuncture treatments by donation to benefit the Massachusetts Coalition of Domestic Workers (MCDW).

MCDW works to bring racial and social justice and dignity to all domestic workers in our state. Founded in 2010 by a Steering Committee comprised of the Brazilian Women’s Group (BWG), the Dominican Development Center (DDC), and Matahari Women’s Workers Center, the MCDW was the driving force in passing the MA Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights (BoR) in April 2014 which established important labor standards, and granted basic protections to nannies, housekeepers, and other in-home caregivers. MCDW continues to empower domestic workers in Massachusetts.

As MCDW stated on their Facebook page: “Want to support MCDW while doing some self-care? Boston Acupuncture Project's benefit will help us to support domestic workers across the state. Reserve your spot today!”

On Feb. 21, walk-ins are welcome at BAP from 3:00-6:00pm as long as space is available, but appointments are encouraged. Appointments can be made online at Boston Acupuncture Project’s website, or the shortlink: http://bit.ly/2020MCDWatBAP

Suggested donation is $20, but anything you give for your treatment on Feb. 21 benefits MCDW (http://www.massdomesticworkers.org/). You can pay with cash or check in the clinic at 74 Fairmount Ave, Hyde Park, MA, or make your donation online at http://www.massdomesticworkers.org/donate

Those who are not usually able to afford acupuncture are welcome to come in and enjoy a treatment for any amount of payment.

So, who is Carmen?

"Carmen is my mom," says Myrna Morales, MCDW’s Social Media Coordinator. “I wanted to celebrate her birthday with acupuncture for everyone, free acupuncture! It was Ren’s idea to make it a benefit for MCDW.”

Oren "Ren" Pilinger, Executive Director and Licensed Acupuncturist at BAP, said: “I want to use our collective resources to support MCDW’s work. This is a win/win for everyone who supports domestic workers and affordable acupuncture. Plus, Myrna has been so supportive of BAP - I wanted to send some support back her way. I hope MCDW’s  members and supporters will all enjoy this benefit.”

Acupuncture is regularly used to treat many health concerns, including all types of pain and stress. According to the Mayo Clinic, stress can affect people more than they realize. It can cause disturbances to sleep and digestion. Stress can also raise blood pressure and cause debilitating fatigue, depression, and anxiety.

Boston Acupuncture Project, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit running Hyde Park’s first Community Acupuncture Clinic with an affordable sliding scale. BAP is also offering a “Bring A Buddy” 2-for-1 special offer for the month of February 2020.  You can find out more on their website: www.BostonAcupunctureProject.org
