Exurbs got more snow than the city

Kelly reports from the 495 belt:

Looks like we got 12 inches or so, all of which needs to be removed from the driveway and walkways.

That's why I had children.

Meanwhile, I'm going to make a cup of tea.

Man who helped give us the Big Dig feigns innocence of Big Dig

Our new transportation secretary, appointed in the middle of a snowstorm for minimum effect, tells the Globe he doesn't know what "Big Dig culture" means:

When asked yesterday whether he was a part of the Big Dig culture, Aloisi said: "I don't even know what that phrase means."

At Blue Mass. Group, David provides a handy little primer for Mr. Aloisi - whose new boss made getting rid of "Big Dig culture" part of his campaign, concludes:

... The unanswered question -- for Aloisi, for the Governor, and for all of us -- is whether Aloisi is the right guy to navigate the state's transportation bureaucracy out of that culture, and into the new era of reform that we've been promised. For all of our sakes, I sure hope so.

Aw

Don't you just love going outside to see that your neighbor just kept going with his snow blower and cleaned your sidewalk, too? Thanks, Marcos!

Utility poles are made of sterner stuff

Third Decade, who lives on a hilly, curvy street in Roxbury, last night professed admiration for utility poles:

... I just watched one of my neighbors crash and bounce off the pole in front of my building twice. The wires twitched a bit, but the pole looks fine so far. Can't really tell how the car fared, though. ...

T goes a little nuts with the chainsaws along the Mattapan line

It's treemegeddon as the MBTA hacks away at trees menacing the trolleys on the Mattapan line:

"They really butchered it," said cemetery trustee John O'Toole. "We lost some really mature trees that provided a buffer between the cemetery on Madden Street and the trolley itself." ...

Storm claims one life in Acushnet

Clearing a tree limb on Apple Blossom Lane, Leo Renauld was reported killed last night. He and a neighbor were attempting to clear fallen limbs that were blocking the road.

Mother Nature always reminds us - perhaps in this case with a touch of irony - that the weather is something to always be respected.

They say I won't last too long on Broadway

Because the city's declared a snow emergency
and ordered everybody off
On Broadway.

In South Boston, that is.
