Cullen: NYT Co. as loan shark

Globe columnist Cullen likens relationship between Globe and NYT Co. to that between debtor and loan shark. Overall, it reads like a resigned realist, laying it out.

This installment of the loansharking metaphor is relatively free of violence, but tune in for the next exciting episode.

Bruins fan says ouch

Rob: Wow, that one hurt:

... I still love the Bruins chances in this series, but not if they play like they did for most of Game 3. ...

Chris: The Bruins were careless with the puck in the third period and to open the overtime.

Will the Orpheum be renovated this summer?

Depends on whether you believe the Herald:

[Don] Law said the Orpheum Theatre will undergo renovations this summer by owner Ronald Druker. “The discussion is ongoing, but my sense is they will be significant,” Law said.

or the Globe:

For consumers, the latest ownership change is unlikely to have a significant impact on the programming or ambiance of the three venues. Law said he does not anticipate making significant renovations to any of the facilities.

[Earlier: Thanks for buying the Orpheum. Now will you fix it?]

Did Massport orphan coyote pups today?

Jimbo points us to this photo by George Cumming of what might be the dead Logan coyote - who seemed to be lactating a week ago, which means there are now some orphan coyote babies in Belle Isle Marsh.

Jerry Remy on indefinite leave due to complications from lung-cancer surgery

NESN says he'll have a seat in the announcers' booth when he returns:

"I hope that disclosing my bout with cancer will reinforce the dangers of smoking to every member of Red Sox Nation, especially children," said Remy, the president of Red Sox Nation.

Remy posts some more details:

... Unfortunately, following the surgery, I developed a bad infection further compounded by a case of pneumonia. It was the pneumonia and the infection that set me back. This all happened just as I was leaving for spring training. ...

Would you take a job at the Globe?

There's at least one opening, for an application-development manager, as an alert reader lets us know. Re-arranging deck chairs is not listed as a required skill.

Roslindale mother found not guilty by reason of insanity for killing her children

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today agreed with Angela Vazquez's attorney that she should not serve jail time for killing her daughter, 13, and son, 10, because she "suffered from a mental disease or defect at the time she committed the act," the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

However, Vazquez could still be locked up in a psychiatric facility, following a 40-day evaluation, the DA's office says.

Police found the decaying bodies of her two children on July 29, 2007. Officials say they could not determine the exact cause of death because their bodies had badly decomposed by the time they were found in her Maynard Road home, but that evidence and witnesses proved she killed them.
