It would be great if that second note read 'Who but W.B. Mason,' but we're doubting it

Who shoveled this space

In today's episode of "Existential Space Savers," Ben Myers shows us one of the signs in his neighborhood.

Looks like the snow cleaning technique is on par with his/her grammatical skills.

This is a person who can't remember whether it was him or somebody else who shoveled out that space. Points for remembering how to write at all.

"The other day I . . . no, wait -- that was somebody else."

The sign is just written in dialect. Sure, the person is being an asshole thinking public property is theirs, but do we need to stoop to discussing what varieties of English are superior to others? When it's music or poetry or novels written in dialect, most of y'all are appropriately appreciative. Let's focus on the message, not the delivery, hm?

Actually, I was really focused on how poorly they cleared out the spot. That's a really poor job (at least from this angle).

A solid (and generous) D- on grammar, but a refreshing 100% on the spelling portion of the words that WERE chosen.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree with the use of "clean" there.

I occasionally see signs like this around my neighborhood. The most recent was a sign either advertising, or asking for shoveling help. The lack of a period or question mark really made things confusing.

Judging by the mounds of snow on the ground behind the sign.

I might be a saver apologist, but come on folks, take pride in your work. I am almost thinking that Kaz (below) is right. If someone did a real shoveling job, they might have the claim.

... his blue marker froze up and he had to finish with the emergency red.

I was thinking it was blood from the amt of outrage expressed or perhaps
a sacrifice was made by a non-volunteer.

"Everyone, and yet no one all at the same time, clears that spot"

"I shovel therefore I own"

...for the note leavers- put a map to the nearest unshoveled spot. So in my neighborhood, there's about 8 spots on Albano St, just waiting for an industrious person who needs parking.

If I had a way to cut that street out of my commute home, I would! Lordy, would that there were so many free spots...

how long before people can start charging and renting out "their" spots?

Walsh says it is now ok to use space savers for the whole winter and he is preparing to rent the whole city out to the IOC... so I guess it's anything goes.

There's an app for that...

If that person left the space like that, and I come through with an ice chisel and do a better job does that mean I can save the space for myself now?

Yes. Basically you are looking at an adverse possession argument here and one good way to move that process along is to make improvements to the property.

What did he say?

OWNS, OWNS. Look, Reg, I don't care who own the team. I hate it here. It make me sick.

...who own da Cheef.

And the end line begins "he say he don't know"

I can't believe I screwed it up. It is my favorite dialogue in the movie.

Space Saver time is OVER. They aren't valid until the next major storm. (3-4 inches does not count)

Except if you live in Boston. Thanks Marty!

The 48 hour rule is still in effect. It's just that the City won't help enforce its own rule. Seems like a total cop out by Walsh...

Source:
"But the mayor’s office clarified Monday that it’s the enforcement of the space saver policy that is being relaxed.
“Space savers are meant to be used on a short term basis, with 48 hours as a guideline, and Mayor Walsh urges residents to treat their neighbors with respect, and use good judgement around this,” Walsh spokeswoman Melina Schuler said in an email. “Our primary focus right now is on snow removal and opening up access on our streets, and then we can assist on space savers.”"

Marty Walsh is starting to clean them up because it is out of control. 48 hours as a guideline - as in 48 hours after a storm or snow emergency ends. The last storm was 2/15 - even if you go by 48 hrs after the snow emergency was lifted (6p 2/18) - space saver time ended at 6p on 2/20. Time to move on.

The space-saver posts are getting a little old, imo.
Or maybe I'm just grumpy.

And by grumpy, I mean the general "when the !@#$ is this snow going away" grumpy that we all are afflicted with.

at least he's not threatening anyone.

It's not yours. end of discussion. If I shovel my sidewalk (which I do), can only I walk on it?
