Failed Allston roast-beef place could become a Five Guys

The city is holding a neighbors' meeting on Wednesday on the idea of converting the old Kelly's at Commonwealth and Harvard avenues into a Five Guys hamburger place.

The meeting for abutters starts at 5:30 p.m. at the old Kelly's - right across the street from the McDonald's, which convinced the Boston Licensing Board to let it stay open late because of Kelly's 2 a.m. closing time.

Tedeschi sought city permission awhile back to move and expand its store on the other side of Harvard to the location, but nothing much ever happened with that.

I love me my roast beef, that being said, this place was disgusting. I tried it once and couldn't finish (I'll eat anything), then tried one more time, and it was worse. Tarnished the already tarnished Kelly's name even worse.

to bribe Marty's into returning?

That place has been jinxed since they moved.

I never understood why they opened there. Kelly's seemed more suited for downtown, faneuil hall, or near the Garden.

Out of town college kids think a 3-way with extra mayo is a fraternity pledge.

Why does it take five guys to make a hamburger?

I'm from the North Shore where roast beef sandwiches are a part of life. It kills me that I cannot get a decent roast beef sandwich for lunch near my office downtown. It just doesn't exist. Kellys is FAR from the best roast beef place around (see Londi's in Salem and Danvers) but I would welcome any roast beef I could get.

I agree, but Al's roast beef is pretty darn good, and reasonably priced for its location on State st. Have you ever tried Harrisson's in North Andover? That's my favorite by far.
