It is time that Eastie will see more resturaunts popping up in the near future, Cunard Tavern on Orleans Street, I don't know what they're menu will be like, but I'm hoping it will be something that residents of Eastie can afford. Eastie is definitely not in a position for a high end resturaunt with high end prices! If that were the case , don't you think one of the top best chefs in the city would have already opened up an eatery in Eastie, Eastie is in the Allston category in regards to Resturaunts (affordability and wide variety of ethnic cuisine)
KO at the Shipyard -- Aussie meat pies and entrees and beer. The Kaki Lima pop-up residency on Sundays features terrific Indonesian fare.
Angela's Cafe -- great, traditional Pueblan Mexican; the new second location has booze.
Taqueria Jalisco -- great Mexican tacos, super-traditional.
Mi Pueblito, Restaurante Montecristo, Mama Blanca -- three good Salvadoran/Guatemalan joints with some Mexican fare.
Javelli's -- old-school Italian-American, good neighborhood bar (Terminal J, so-called for its popularity with airline employees).
Rino's -- excellent Abruzzese fair and very good Italian-American, but Guy Fieri has made the waits as unspeakable as his style choices.
Santarpio's -- still very good pizza and kebabs and plonk on tap. Stick to one or two toppings per pie.
Rincon Limeno and Pollos a la Brasa El Chalan. Two good Peruvians, the former fancier, with table service, the latter grungier, but with great rotisserie chicken.
Belle Isle Seafood -- now just over the bridge in Winthrop, a fine shore-shack experience and a good fish market. Love their lobster roll.
Royal -- typical but good of its kind: Greek-American owned North Shore roast beef sandwiches and fried seafood platters.
Saigon Hut -- surprisingly good Vietnamese.
Harborside Grill & Patio, Hyatt Harborside -- not exactly cheap, but a genuine hidden gem of a bar with a spectacular view of the Boston waterfront: all the way from the Eastie shipyard to Castle Island. I've decided this is *the* place to go for an illicit assignation, as nobody who lives in Boston ever goes to Logan hotels, so you have a low probability of running into a friend or neighbor while you're dallying with your side dish.
35 40 years ago Eastie had many restaurants , way before Rino's , Italian Express, KO pies, Angelas, Hacienda, Rincon Limon,
For one, everybody in Eastie experiencedeating at Lombardos ( and that was a function hall)
Here is a list of places to eat in
Eastie
Angelo's seafood (Meridian and Saratoga streets) voted best seafood in Boston /Boston Magazine 1989
Sunset Pizza (Meridian street) second best pizza in Eastie at the time
Lichee Garden (Central Sq)
Morelli's (Bennington street)
Cafe Palermo a/k/a Christies pizza. 50 cents a slice ..(Marion /Bennington streets)
Rileys roast beef (Day Sq) Easties version of Kelly's roast beef.
Mamma Catina ( Porter st)
Great roast beef and seafood place, primarily a take out, though there are a small handful of tables. Constantly full of state police getting food, so you never have to worry about getting robbed while you're in there.
The North Shore is peppered with countless "Roast Beef and Seafood" restaurants — it's a thing. After all, we're right on the ocean where people expect to get delicious, freshly caught seafood.
Kelly's is perhaps most famous, but they're somewhat overrated. Many lesser-known places are much better. Royal falls toward the bottom of places I've tried. The fish didn't taste very fresh, the clams and scallops were sparse, and everything tasted like the oil it was fried in hadn't been changed in years.
It's farther than East Boston, but for the very best, a venture to the Anchor Bar in Beverly is worth the trip. If you want the freshest, most delicious seafood, at a great price — the Anchor Bar reigns supreme!
Would second many listed here. Will add:
1. Mehak Halal on Sumner Street. Indian-Pakistani with no liquor license but the mango lassi makes up for it. Very affordable and great food.
2. Italian Express across from Mehak. Also another place befouled by that rabid hedgehog, Guy Fieri. Pizzas are good but check out the pasta dishes, they're better.
3. Kelley Square Pub. Locals kind of place. Great place to watch a game at the bar if you can get a seat. Lamb tip sandwich is great. Kind of place to take your Nanna, especially if she wants to step outside for a Pall Mall.

Roast Beef Perhaps, But For Seafood, They Should Be Dethroned
I didn't try the roast beef, but a seafood platter from there was terrible. Won't go back.
If life has taught me anything
It is this. If you are going to a restaurant, you order what the restaurant is known for.
If it says Roast Beef in the name, stick to the roast beef.
Their Full Name Is "Roast Beef And Seafood"
