The final arbiter of zip codes seems to be the US Postal Service, and since they put the Boston Police VFW Post - on the south side of American Legion Highway at 500 Morton Street - in Dorchester, I guess the entire intersection is in that neighborhood.
One reason this is worth paying attention to is car insurance. A.L. Highway is such a crash-prone road, it probably contributes more to each neighborhood's collision insurance rates than most of the other streets combined.
