A Newton man and his fiancee, who lives in New York, want UPS to reimburse them for the cost of a ring they used UPS to return to a Florida jeweler because it turned out to have the wrong type of diamond.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday in US District Court in Boston, Aanachal Sharma of Newton and Bhuwan Chawla say the diamond was in the box Chawla paid $250.05 to insure at a UPS store in Staten Island, NY on June 23, 2012, but that it was not in the box when the jeweler opened it two days later in Boynton Beach, Fla.

TechTarget of Newton says three former executives stole its proprietary information to build a competing business and filed suit yesterday to get them to knock it off. The executives, who now run a company called Prelytix, countered with their own suit, saying TechTarget is not all that, that they've built a new business based entirely on software they bought from another company and that a judge should order TechTarget to leave them alone.

Electrical wires, a strip-mail building and at least two cars all managed to catch fire in the same incident at 244 Needham St. today that resulted in a two-alarm response from the Newton, Needham and Boston fire departments. The Newton Fire Department reports that because of the presence of live wires, it couldn't do anything about the flaming autos until after NStar had shut off the electricity.

Seems 126 Lincoln St. in Newton was having a yard sale over the weekend, but some jerk who thought he was there actually stole a wading pool and air conditioner from 130 Lincoln. Keep the AC, those folks say, but bring back their kids' favorite wading pool:

To the person who took the air conditioner and the wading pool from the WRONG HOUSE!! The yard sale items were at 126 Lincoln NOT 130 Lincoln!!

Please, please return my children's pool! They are absolutely crushed.

Per Kate Merrill, tranquilizers this morning didn't work against the bear, in a tree on Eddy Street, overlooking the turnpike just west of the supermarket overpass. The westbound turnpike was briefly shut.

Kimball Megan reports her outbound Worcester Line train was briefly delayed around 7:45 a.m. because the bear was on the tracks.

Two photos by WBZ of the bear before it was shot.
