From SNN 23 - 9/23/14 - Warren Wows Tufts, Despite Protests

by Jane Regan

Somerville, MA, September 23, 2014 – Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) wowed a crowd of some 500 students, faculty and neighbors on September 15 with stories from her youth, but she also issued dire warnings about the big banks, the lack of investment in education and the “hollowing out of the middle class.”

The senator was also protested by those who came to criticize her stand on the most recent chapter of the Israel-Gaza conflict. Once inside, however, Warren seemed to back away slightly from statements she made in August, saying that Palestinians had a right to self-defense.

By Stop Litter---Yes On 2 in 2014... - 9/20/14 - 7:20 pm

We need to stop litter and keep Massachusetts clean by spreading the word about the Yes on Question 2 campaign.

The Bottle Bill is the most effective recycling tool we have. Eighty percent of bottles covered by the Bottle Bill’s 5-cent deposit are recycled. Yes on Question 2 would add a bottle deposit to water, sports drinks, tea, juices, and other drinks that were not included in the original bill because they were not popular when the law was passed in 1982.

We need your vote on November 4 to update the Bottle Bill.

Train stopped due to gum spitting at Davis Square Red Line station

UPDATED with info from MBTA.

Don't use your phone right on the yellow line, because you might drop it and then the driver of the train will stop his train so your phone can be retrieved before it is crushed into a gazillion pieces.

Get ready for the Tiny House Festival on Sept. 20 at 10 Poplar St.:

Our hope is that a group of tiny houses will take residence in this large city lot in Somerville to create a temporary village from Friday September 19 through Sunday, September 21. While the houses are there, the space will hold several events including a craft fair and festival, an evening documentary screening, and Sunday afternoon building workshops.
