Teddy Kokoros reports he was on his usual bus ride from Watertown into Boston around 7:15 this morning when he looked out the window in the Pru Tunnel to see a car fully engulfed in flames on the Copley offramp. Sounds like the car occupants were able to get out OK, at least, neither BFD nor State Police called for an ambulance.

Impressive
It’s kind of amazing they allow traffic into the tunnel when this happens. They have good ventilation in tunnels (because, like, reasons). But this only wound up closing down a couple of lanes, during an active fire.
The orange line catching fire was an excuse for Charlie baker to shut it down for a month. We’re not going to shut down the pike for a month, are we?
We should ban gasoline cars
A gasoline car had a fire, so we should ban them all.
If an electric car goes up in a tunnel …
That’s going to be a long shutdown.
To be safe
The tracks run pretty close to the Pike in spots - we should probably shut down the Orange Line tracks just to be safe
As soon as troopers arrived ...
They shut the ramp.
Makes sense
Didn’t realize it was fully on the ramp and not in the tunnel itself. Must have been a fun traffic morning!
Kinda surprised it was not as
Kinda surprised it was not as miserable as I would have thought. I drove to the airport at 9am and it was smooth.
30 years ago in "Blown Away"
Tommy Lee Jones was literally upstairs in Copley Square dealing with an explosion
"Blown Away"
Ah, classic film. Known as "Really Blows" at my house.
"Things are now back to what passes for normal these days"
We had another fire on the red line at Kendall yesterday and it didn't make the news.
I remember being on a Greyhound bus in the Pru Tunnel once
when the bus driver was saying ¨And now we are approaching South Station in Boston, our last stop. Please do not take your luggage out of the overhead compartments until the bus has come to a complete - HOLY FUCK! WHAT WAS THAT??"
A car had just bounced off the tunnel wall.
That car driver was a bit more fortunate than the one here ... the car kept going. It must have needed body work afterwards, though.
