Proposed suburban duplex

Architect's rendering.

The Board of Appeals yesterday deferred any action on a proposed duplex on Hemman Street in Roslindale because the design - which featured two two-car garages right next to each other under the living space - was just too suburban for an urban neighborhood, even one as leafy as that section of Roslindale. Sanchez and Elugardo

State Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez (D-15th Suffolk) and challenger Nika Elugardo agreed on more than they disagreed on, at a candidate forum in Jamaica Plain last night.

Instead, the two battled over who was the most progressive - and how to fight for progressive values - in one of the state's most progressive districts, which includes parts of Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, Roslindale and Brookline, in a room at the First Baptist Church that was so packed people were turned away at the door. The Boston Licensing Board's Feb. 14 agenda had a pair of unusual items. Under number 10, Redd's in Rozzie's owner, Charlie Redd, sought permission to sell his restaurant's liquor license to bartaco, a national upscale taco chain seeking to open its first Boston outlet, in Fort Point. Under number 11, Redd sought one of the "neighborhood" liquor licenses the city had won under a state law first proposed by City Councilor Ayanna Pressley. Read more.
