Boston's Mobile Food Truck Committee (yes, of course the city has a Mobile Food Truck Committee) has approved a pilot project in which food trucks can keep serving food until midnight in designated areas in Copley Square and at Boston University East and Northeastern on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Mayor Walsh says that if the pilot proves successful, he'd want to look at expanding it to other areas.

Poster advertising Nick Varano's new steak place in the Park Plaza. Guess he's not too concerned about how many women patrons he'll get - or about his spelling.

The photo of the poster is by Charles Draghi, who knows something about the restaurant business himself and who has some choice comments about the poster in the comments under the photo.

UPDATE, Monday morning: The poster is gone, replaced by one showing a woman balancing on one high heel on an uncooked steak .

John McLachlan walked along the Charles yesterday, noted the puddling caused by warming temperatures, but also the unusual ice floes pushed up onto shore. The river today.

Brad Kelly, meanwhile, noted a possible sign of spring: Whiskey Priest poking its head up above one of the snow piles along the South Boston waterfront.

Several city councilors say they're not opposed to medical marijuana but that Southampton Street is just the wrong place for one of the two dispensaries provisionally approved by the state because it's already in the middle of an area with large methadone clinics, a jail, trash-transfer facilities and the BU biolab.

And at a hearing today, councilors expressed major disappointment in state officials, none of whom showed up.

The Boston Licensing Board today warned the lawyer for the fancy home-furnishing chain that if it doesn't start serving the wine and beer for which it won a license at its Back Bay store last year, it could have that license taken away.

Restoration Hardware lawyer Howard Wayne told the board it's been unable to win ISD approval for the kitchen, restrooms and other facilities it needs to open a wine bar in its historic new location between Boylston and Newbury streets.

Wayne said the store wants to eventually open a wine bar, but if it can't, it would sell the license.

The Boston Licensing Board today gave Trident Booksellers and Cafe, 338 Newbury St., permission to stay open until midnight.

Michael Lemanski, general manager of one of Boston's dwindling number of bookstores, said customers had been asking for an extra hour of time in which to enjoy the literary alternative to a traditional bar or pub.

He told the board at a hearing Wednesday the revenue from the extra hour will also help Trident, open since 1984, stay in business. He cited health care as an example of a cost it has been struggling with.
