God is Great. All the time. Have you ever been too an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting or a Narcotic Anonymous meeting? I have. Have you ever been experienced? I have. The concept of the meetings are to control your addiction to booze or drugs, AND to get honest, if possible, with thyself.

Honesty, now that's a concept. The meetings I've attended the majority of the people are trying to get honest with their inner demons, but theirs a handful that are full of BS. By going to some of these meetings I've got to know some of the gist of things, like the sayings, Live an Let Live, One Day at a Time an so on. By saying there are some frauds in the halls of the Fellowship, one might think I'm taking someone else is inventory, but ye of little faith I am not. I'm just annoyed at how a couple of junkie/dealers can get a ninety day chip and think that makes everything better. Thirty years with a habit and ninety days clean, hmm let's do the math. A thirty year habit doesn't clear up in ninety days. It takes one day at a time working the twelve step program with vigilance.

Tina Fey shows the way. Counter protest the Tea Party.

Tina Fey reprised her impression of Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live" while hosting the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday night. It was Fey's first performance as the former Alaska governor since her iconic impressions during the 2008 presidential campaign when Palin was the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Fey appeared as Palin in a sketch introducing a mock "Sarah Palin Network," satirizing Palin's entry into media. Palin recently launched the program "Real American Stories" on Fox News Channel and will soon begin production on "Sarah Palin's Alaska," an eight-part series for TLC. link

Libraries and Communities

As Boston considers the closing of libraries in the midst of a recession, it may be useful to remind ourselves of the broader contributions of libraries to our neighborhoods:

Former American Librarian Association president Sarah Long

When I was president of the American Library Association in 1999-2000, I chose, "Libraries Build Community" as my theme because I felt strongly that the library always serves a special place in the community. It's not only a place to find information and knowledgeable librarians, it's also a place to be with other community members. Think of the library as a community's living room. . . . I chose, "Libraries Build Community" as my presidential theme because the library is the community's information hub and a place to gather, but also because of what happens inside libraries. Children come to story hour and adults come to programs. Library meeting rooms are places to vote or are used for local legislators' town hall meetings. In the information age, the library is so much more than a collection of books.

Where are all the Black Teabaggers?

A stupid question, but worth asking: Are there any members of the Teabag party who are also people of color? I've tried to find images of African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, or Native Americans to no avail. The right's extremely popular wingnuts don't seem to have a place at the table for non-whites. What's up with that?

A mayor who built the branch libraries would be a hero

I am not interested in arguing the list. I have a pretty good feeling that my library can beat these other libraries. But that's what the cutters want, they want to pit us one neighborhood against the other. I imagine the West End library is still there because modernizers of the past, in an effort to bring the West End into the 20th century, flattened the neighborhood in the name of progress, dense urban living and a major road interchange. But instead of a modern neighborhood, the West End became an infamous name, and a symbol of everything that went wrong in urban renewal.

Dog Park Follow Up- Vindication!!

So I took Ramona on her usual dog walk tonight with much trepidation. Last night's altercation has been weighing on me all day. I certainly did not want another incident like last night and at the same time I do not want to be intimidated away from the park which I only use 10 mins in the morning and the evening everyday. As I was making my rounds I ran into the other dogwalker who witnessed the whole argument. I was ready to pounce on him for slinking away BUT he apologized profusely for the other person's behavior and how disgusted he was at what happened. He went on to say that I was completely in the right and that dog has been aggressive to other dogs in the park. Both the guys who walk Jazzy do absolutely nothing about her and he is going to have a talk with the guy who I argued with last night. It was completely uncalled for. I cannot tell you how vindicated I felt. Since Jazzy's owner is friendly with many other dog owners in the park I was worried about my relationship with the other walkers. I feel so much better knowing that there are people who get it.

Maddow to Scott Brown: Stop Lying. Stop It. Stop Lying.

By now, we've all read the full-page ad by Rachel Maddow in The Boston Globe this past week. We know that Senator Scott Brown created the rumor that Maddow was planning to run against him. We know that Brown has stirred the pot, repeating the fictional story to conservative talk shows, campaign stops, newspapers like The Boston Herald, and his most important audience: potential donors.

He's lying. He continues to lie.

Shorter Menino and Amy Ryan: We have to close library branches to make them more accessible to the community

And by that they mean "transformation."

If you're buying that, I have a bridge over the Charles River Dam called Zakim Bridge that I could sell you.

Frank Cardulo

While there is a bio by Frank, and another about the Mrs., There should be a compilation of the experiences of the followers, customers, employes, etc of this renouned establishment that for so many years anchored the heart and soul of the Square.

I rember asking Frank "who is the tall guy that walks in every morning, pours his own coffee, maybe gets a danish or other order, reads the newspapers and is never presented a check," and ? HE then dissapears as silently as he enters.

Turns out, the guy is the president of Harvard U. (tba)

Creeping pandemonium at Boston Public Schools hearing

Walked over to the hearing through the common. Didn't know that street was Court Street! Learned something new.

Turned the corner and the street is closed, hundreds of sign wavers. What are they protesting? Oh right. Am I going to be able to get in? Friendly cop says sure you can go in. In the quiet hearing room, people are lined up to speak. Please don't cut the janitors, please don't cut the school police. Please don't cut my school administrator. Reference to Nazi Germany.

I get in line to speak. Now I'm getting nervous. Will everything I typed up fit in three minutes? Organize your thoughts... A young lady from Latin is just before me, speaking quietly into the microphone, when signs begin to appear in the high windows of the hearing room. Signs are banging on the windows. People are climbing up and yelling. The poor girl gives up and it's my turn. I put my head on the microphone and ramble directly into it for 2 and a half minutes.

The Washington Bubble versus the Hub of the Universe

Dear Dave Wiegel,

You are inside the beltway and inside the bubble. We live at the Hub of the Universe.

Here at the Hub of the Universe there is no "fairly obscure blog." There is however, UniversalHub. As Tom Friedman once said, "suck on that." He actually said "Suck on this" but you know what I mean.

Scott Brown: Help Me Defeat Rachel Maddow, Who Might Run Against Me, According to Twitter
By David Weigel 3/23/10 4:58 PM

The campaign of Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), who’s got less of a cash problem than almost anyone running for office in 2012 (he has millions left over from his special election bid), points to a fairly obscure blog to stoke fears that MSNBC host Rachel Maddow is being recruited to oppose him.
