Mayor Menino and friends joke about e-mail scandal

Check out the end of this Herald article which tells how Mayor Menino and his friends joked about the e-mail scandal at a Councilor Tobin event last night. Note: the mayor was skipping an East Boston event to attend this toast.

The mayor turned down the East Boston event and instead attended a ritzy gala on Newbury Street, where he was given an achievement award. Later that night he went to a 40th birthday party fund-raiser for Councilor John Tobin at a West Roxbury Elks Club.

Ayanna Pressley - I don't vote for spammers

Ayanna Pressley spammed me at the beginning of her campaign. I complained. She ignored me. I probably would have voted for her if she hadn't spammed me OR she had acknowledged my complaint.

Commuter Rail hits man in Whitman; no news coverage

UPDATED to reflect that the indecent involved a pedestrian, not a motor vehicle as I first thought.

The 9:30pm outbound Kingston commuter rail struck a man near the Essex Street crossing in Whitman Thursday night; the first emergency call was received at 10:06 pm, according to chatter heard on a police scanner. I cannot confirm whether or not that this incident was fatal.

Curiously, I can't find one mention of this in local media - not even the local South Shore papers. I guess T accidents after daylight hours don't give good enough photo ops to make the news.

Slow Housing Starts Keeping Mass Home Sales Steady

From The Warren Residential Group Blog http://www.warrenre.com/blog

Many of my clients ask my why I think Boston has held up so well compared to other large markets such as parts of California, Florida and Nevada. I always tell them that the main reason is the small amount of new supply being brought to market.

I don't get the Red Sox angst.

Nobody will ever accuse me of not taking sports seriously enough. In fact, the property damage my friends and I may or may not have caused after Boston College lost the 2007 NCAA hockey national championship game is the stuff of legend, and I vividly remember crying myself to sleep as a 15-year-old when the Red Sox were knocked out of the ALCS in 2003.

Because we really need another one of these.

Hello out there in UniversalHub land. I have determined that what the internet lacks most of all is a personal blog about some schlub's experiences in and around [insert major city here]. I have decided to rectify that problem my moving my ramblings over here.

I will be blogging about Boston politics, the T, local music, dining, bars, sports, and life from the perspective of a 21-year-old Revere native now living in an apartment in Chestnut Hill, where I will be a senior this fall at Boston College.

Help find Jeffrey Phillips

A friend who is a local with us at the Dogwood Cafe in JP has gone missing in Braintree. I'm reaching out to the Universal Hub community in the hopes that someone reading might be able to help in some way.

Jeffrey Adam Phillips has been missing since Friday July 24, 2009. He was last heard from via a cell phone call with a friend and his mother around 7:30 PM and he was at his house. Jeff had plans to meet his mother Saturday morning but was never heard from.
